Prisoners have turned violent in Jhapa District Jail located in Bhadrapur. The prisoners, who have been agitating since around 2.30PM, started their protest inside the prison by burning tires and pelting stones. After the excited inmates climbed on the roof of the prison and shouted slogans with domestic weapons, police firing was also done to quell the incident.
Jhapa’s DSP Khagendra Prasad Rijal informed that when the male inmates tried to escape by climbing on the roof of the prison and trying to escape, the police fired 7 rounds of bullets and 5 rounds of tear gas.
The police informed that about 100 prisoners started protesting against the transfer of death case prisoner Manoj Rawat to Sunsari Gram. According to the prisoner’s statement, we had to protest because the government did not give us the service facilities we wanted to call our fellow brothers, express our desire to do our work. We have not done anything wrong, we are living together as brothers. It is for this reason that we are opposed to sending people who are involved in money laundering here out of here.
The prisoners of Jhapa said that every facility provided by the state was taken from the service that we 1600 prisoners get. According to Chief District Officer Shivaram Pokhrel, looked weak while doing so, and after seeing the prisoners running away, they had to fire.
